ATEDCo Joins DMAI
As part of its ongoing efforts to expand its international networking programme and broaden its know-how exchange base, the Athens Tourism and Economic Development Co. (ATEDCo), the official tourist entity of the City of Athens, has joined Destination Marketing Association International, a leading organisation in the area of international tourism. DMAI is one of the oldest and most active associations of Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) with 625 member organisations from 25 countries. It was formed in the United States in 1914 as the International Association of Convention Bureaus (IACB) with the main goal of promoting an approach to the convention and event planning industry that is based on professionalism and expert knowledge.
Today, DMAI is the most reliable resource for networking and know-how exchange among DMOs worldwide and is continually expanding its services through its foundation. The foundation provides opportunities for education and training in the sectors of tourism development and destination marketing, an online resource library, a destination assessment and accreditation program, as well as an ongoing series of specialised conferences and seminars.
Through its membership in DMAI, ATEDCo aims to further broaden its international network, to document successful practices in destination management and marketing, to draw and exchange technical expertise and to promote Athens as a tourism destination. It should be noted that ATEDCo is already a member of the United National World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), the International Congress and Convention Association and the European Cities Marketing network. Immediate plans also call for a further expansion of its international networking programme to include organisations offering specialty forms of tourism.
