The brand new and dynamic face of Athens on the web

Athens has acquired a more dynamic Internet presence with the revamping of its website, www.breathtakingathens.com, to provide a live, unique electronic travel experience. The city joined the rest of the planet in celebrating World Tourism Day and presented its new image on the Internet.
The changes made to the site include new features, both in terms of functionality and in terms of information on everything visitors to Athens should know. The wealth of continually updated photographic materials that provide a framework for informative topics visually offers a pioneering dimension that holds the visitor's interest. It should be noted that the material includes photographs taken by the citizens of Athens themselves who, in wanting to illustrate the city's best aspects, have uploaded the largest photostream ever achieved regarding Athens at www.thisisathens.org.
The revamped website was developed with a contemporary, modern, simple and accessible design presenting four main units: Travel; Stay; See & Do; and Experience. Through these, Greek and foreign visitors to Athens are able to tour the city and easily find useful information on mass transport, accommodation, museums, galleries, dining, nightlife and even sports. The interactive maps of the city have been updated with useful information, as has the calendar listing events that are taking place in Athens. Of particular interest are the focus areas featuring special elements of the city, such as Athens Top Ten; Athens in 1-6 days; Athens for You; and Strolling through Athens.
As noted by City of Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis, "the selection of World Tourism Day to present the updated breathtakingathens.com website was a happy coincidence. This day of celebration brings to the forefront the change in strategy that is required to develop the tourism product in our country and highlights the imperative need to utilise all modern means to attract tourists. As the Athens Tourism and Economic Development Company has shown through its actions in recent years, an orientation to the Internet and social media has brought positive results in the tourism promotion of the city in a very short period of time in select markets and groups of potential tourists, significantly bolstering the projection of a modern and alternative image of Athens abroad."
We invite you all to visit it!
