As part of City of Athens Mayor Nikita Kaklamanis' strategy to develop conference tourism in Athens and to ensure the city's place among the most popular conference destinations in the world, the Athens Convention Bureau (ACB) took part in the annual congress and general assembly of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), which took place 7-11 November in Florence.

Under the initiative of the Mayor of Athens Nikitas Kaklamanis, the Athens Tourism and Economic Development Company (ATEDCo) took part in the international "Tourism & Travel in the Green Economy" symposium, held 14 and 15 September in Gothenburg, Sweden.

"For the city of Athens to have a museum worthy of its history and culture was a decades-long vision. Today, along with the emotions that we feel in regards to the historic inauguration of the New Acropolis Museum, we proudly open our arms to the whole world in order for all people to become messengers of the unique and universal values of Greek art and culture.

"All Athenians can feel proud of their city for yet another reason. This is irrefutably confirmed by the results of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) report on the international conference market and the global ranking of conference destinations for 2008.

Mayor of Athens Nikitas Kaklamanis received the Greek delegation to the Eurovision Song Contest, led by pop singer Sakis Rouvas, at Athens City Hall today.

Following a decision by Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis, Athens City Council Member Katerina Katsampe has been named president of ATEDCo.

The mission and action plan of the Athens Tourism and Economic Development Company (ATEDCο) aim to promote Athens in the global tourism market, and to make the City one of the leading global destinations for urban and business tourism. These were presented today at an official event held at the New Acropolis Museum.
