Athens was voted by Greek travelers Destination of the Year offering the most interesting events' at the 6th Annual Philoxenia Tourism Awards during the International Tourism Exhibition's "PHILOXENIA" opening ceremony in Thessaloniki on Friday 18th November.

The Mayor of Athens, Yorgos Kaminis said: "It is a great honor for the city of Athens to receive this award and I would like to thank everyone who contributed to these efforts.

Following the success of the Info-Point at the Athens International Airport, two new Info-Points at the center of Athens, on Amalias Ave and Dionisiou Areopagitou conjunction, and the port of Piraeus are now open to the public. The Info-Points, part of Athens's Mayor Yorgos Kaminis's strategy for the promotion and projection of Athens and ATEDCo's Action Plan for 2011-2012, aim to provide Greek and foreign visitors with useful information and guidance about Athens's highlights and outskirts.

On June 23rd, the Athens Convention Bureau (ACB) organized an event in order to present and promote the Athenian prospects and positioning in the international convention and corporate meetings market under the spectrum of the current and emerging trends.

The Mayor of Athens, Yorgos Kaminis outlined in an opening speech the basic axes of the Municipality's touristic policy and the new tasks undertaken by the ACB.

As part of City of Athens Mayor Nikita Kaklamanis' strategy to develop conference tourism in Athens and to ensure the city's place among the most popular conference destinations in the world, the Athens Convention Bureau (ACB) took part in the annual congress and general assembly of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), which took place 7-11 November in Florence.

Under the initiative of the Mayor of Athens Nikitas Kaklamanis, the Athens Tourism and Economic Development Company (ATEDCo) took part in the international "Tourism & Travel in the Green Economy" symposium, held 14 and 15 September in Gothenburg, Sweden.

"For the city of Athens to have a museum worthy of its history and culture was a decades-long vision. Today, along with the emotions that we feel in regards to the historic inauguration of the New Acropolis Museum, we proudly open our arms to the whole world in order for all people to become messengers of the unique and universal values of Greek art and culture.
