ATEDCo at the international exhibition of city tourism 'City Break', for the third consecutive year

2008, June 12

Athens Tourism and Economic Development Company (ATEDCo) participated with notable success in the 3rd International City Tourism 'City Break 2008'. This unparalleled international exhibition of 'City Breaks' was held in Belgrade on the 9th and 10th June, whereas in 2007 it had been organised in Athens, with overwhelming success, and to a very positive response from both participants and visitors.

Within the context of its participation, the ATEDCo personnel met with airline representatives, tour operators, electronic booking companies and conference organisers, business meeting and travel incentive companies with the aim of promoting the upgrading of tourist facilities in Athens, as well as promoting the rich variety of choice for the development of attractive tourist ‘city break' packages in Athens.

Particular emphasis amongst other things was given to the competitive advantages of Athens such as: the much improved communication network of the city, the new Acropolis Museum, the increased services provided by budget companies, the proximity and easy access from the historic centre of the city to the Athens coastal area and the distinctive new places of interest to tourists in the centre of the city.

The exhibition also included a meeting between the personnel of ATEDCo and the Olympic Airlines office in Belgrade, which is responsible for the areas of Serbia and Montenegro, with the objective of improved cooperation in terms of the promotion of Athens as a tourist destination.

During the exhibition, for the first time ever, a survey was conducted of the tour operators to discover what impression had been made of the dynamics of Athens in the market of 'city breaks', to document the competition and an indication of the challenges in the immediate future. The results of the survey will form part of a wider survey being conducted by ATEDCo in cooperation with the University of the Aegean. This survey is expected to be concluded sometime in July.
